Significant highlights of the year 2007-08
a)
Ms. Saraswathy Radhakrishnan took over as Director of the Institute from 01.08.07. She was earlier the Co-ordinator of the Early Childhood program for last 16 years.
b) SIES ICE participated in the career fair organised by Manohar Phalke Memorial Foundation's Polytechnic on 28/1/08.
c) International Mental Health week celebration
Every year we celebrate this event in a unique style. This year we organized a three day series of workshops from 15th of October to 17th of October for the Junior college students on personality enhancement. 900 students benefited from these workshops which were conducted by eminent mental health practioners –
1) Pratima Havaldar, Clinical Psychologist
2) Ms.Archana Samarth Clinical Psychologist
3) Dr. Ashish Deshpande. Psychiatrist
Students of the DECCEd and PGDC assisted in  organizing and participated in the same.
d)
Community Outreach Programmes
    • These programmes are important components of all our courses. The students prepare special modules taking up relevant issues and reach out to the community  at various levels, particularly the disadvantaged sections of society.
    • The second year DECCEd students carried out one such program at Apnalaya, an NGO working for the underprivileged at Shivajinagar, Govandi.
    •  Puppet shows on Value education and Nutrition were staged. Demonstration and distribution of nutritive drinks and healthy food was provided.
    • The beneficiaries were the children of the balwadi and their parents.
    • An orientation program for parents on importance of early childhood years and education was highlighted

Outstation Community Outreach Programmes
  • The students of PGDC conducted workshops for students of D. C. Wadia Residential School on issues like ‘Health and Hygiene’ ‘Goal Setting’.
  • The students of the IIyr DECCED also participated in this programme and conducted sessions with the children through puppetry, story narration, rhymes and free conversation. 
  • At Samparc, an orphanage they held sessions on ‘Stress Management’ for House Mothers and ‘Life Skills Management’ for the children.
  • A career talk also was conducted and career charts were displayed.

This trip is aimed at exposing the students to the counselling issues in residential schools and destitute homes.

In Service Programmes in our School
Workshop on Team Building was conducted on 18.10.07.  for all the  teachers of  SIES  preschool and the faculty of SIES Institute of Comprehensive Education at SIES School, Matunga. 
g) Remedial Services in the School
Students having problems in learning and backward in their studies were attended to in their problem areas. They were individually met, guided and even motivated with specific strategies for improving their performance.

28th Annual Convocation
Dr. Vijayam Ravi, Director, Education, Raymonds Limited was the Chief Guest to deliver the Convocation address and distributed Diplomas and Certificates to the students on 06.10.07.
i)
9th Ram Joshi Memorial Lecture
Dr. Vimla V.  Nadkarni, Professor & Dean, School of Social Work, Tata Institute of Social Sciences was invited to deliver the 9th ‘Ram Joshi Memorial Lecture’ on 14th Sept. 07. The topic selected was “At the Crossroads: Youth in a Globalising World”.

Sanskrit Day:
In order to promote and popularize Sanskrit, the students of SIES ICE joined the main college in celebrating Sanskrit day on 08.12.07. The teacher trainees performed an exemplary dramatization of the story “Fox and the grapes” in Sanskrit. They sang a Sanskrit song and both the events were well received by the audience.
k) Awareness Programs:  
Thalessemia Awareness Program: Dr. Vinay Shetty from Think Foundation  delivered a talk on Thalessemia which enabled the students to get an understanding about the same.

Leprosy awareness Program:  ALERT India, an organization working towards leprosy awareness presented an LCD presentation on 04.01. 08 which clearly depicted the aims, objectives and activities of the organization.  The students collected a sum of more than Rs. 20,000 as part of their fund raising activities.

Poster Making Competition:
Students of Early childhood Education participated in a Poster making competition held at College of Home Science, Nirmala Niketan, New Marine Lines. The posters were well appreciated and the II year DECCED students won prizes for excellence in aesthetics.

Workshop on Child rights :
Workshop for all the students of SIES ICE was organised by Mumbai Street Children
Projects- Child protection and rights of the Child, World Vision India on 23and 24th October, 2007. The students went through LCD presentations, lectures and an interesting animation film on Child Sexual Abuse.

Prayog Science Exhibition:
All the students of SIES-ICE were part of Prayog. Students participated as volunteers for the Science Lab organized by BASF. An exhibition on teaching aids as well as a mini   career fair was organized. Two puppet shows one on Global warming by the II year students and Waste management by the I years were staged which was very well received by children, parents and teachers. 5-8 shows per topic per day were organized.   The puppet shows were major attractions during the Science Fair.

 “Prayog” organized by SIES College

As a part of our training programme in Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling (PGDC), students are prepared in various areas of guidance and counselling ,of which one such area is vocational counselling. As a part of their theory they are taught Sources, Methods of Collection and Classification and Dissemination of Occupational Information.  A Career fair is an outcome of practical exposure of the above.

Workshops by Prominent Educators on the following topics are conducted by experts in their respective fields. Viz:  Child sexual abuse, Play therapy, Crisis counseling Geriatric counseling, Grief counseling, Industrial counseling , Counselling commercial sex workers  etc.

Field Visits for ECCEd students of the1st and 2nd years are organized to different schools catering to normal children, special schools and differently challenged to gain insight into the functioning of these schools in all aspects.

A no. of  Workshops, folder preparation in various topics and subjects and presentations are conducted for the all round development of teacher trainees, special education trainees and counseling program students.
